Biomass is becoming a strategic resource. As we move away from fossil fuels, renewable heat is the most “actionable” project for our regions.
Cap National (SNBC)
2050 carbon-neutral trajectory with strong pressure on decarbonizing heat.
European framework (RED II)
Increased requirements on the sustainability and traceability of energy biomasses.
Resource under pressure
ADEME reminds us of the need to mobilize biomass methodically to avoid conflicts of use.
Miscanthus: a robust agricultural fuel
Miscanthus is the obvious choice for heating networks in the Hauts-de-France region. It offers a more stable diversification of income than cereals, provided the supply chain is mastered.
Technical references
- Yield: 12 to 18 t DM/ha/year (March-April harvest).
- Energy: 4.3 to 4.6 MWh/tonne (at 15% humidity).
- Soil: Perennial crop, no ploughing, return of organic matter (+0.15% OM/year).
- Plant health: No pests or diseases of concern to date.
Temporal dynamics
Increasing yield vs. decreasing working time
Working time drops to ~1.5h/ha once the crop is established.
Cost structure and profitability
Cost breakdown (€/t)
CIBE database
Analysis: The amortization of the plant over 20 years is very low (+2.32 €/t). Competitiveness depends on operational factors (harvesting, logistics).
Stable Income & Visibility
Multi-year contracts possible, targeting 850 to 1000 €/ha/year gross margin (excluding inflation).
Disconnection from world markets
Competitiveness is local. You are less exposed to the volatility of world prices (wheat, rapeseed).
Limited inputs
Once planted, very little intervention is required. The main risk is concentrated on the success of year 0.
Simulation: 10-hectare project

Agribiomix is recruiting: 100 ha between Lille and Dunkirk
We’re structuring a complete supply chain for 2026. The aim is to secure surfaces, organize the supply chain (baling to take place in 2028), and sign contracts with heating plants.
- 5-year indexed buyback contract
- Full technical support
- Logistics security
Priority axis
Lille – Dunkirk
